St. George's preparation for Eucharist is set up similarly to that of our preparation for Reconciliation. Parents and children prepare at home and during religion class. We encourage preparation at home since it is the home is where each child's faith is most cultivated.
First Communion Booklet
The workbook has eight lessons which will guide families through familiar bible stories, offer discussion points, and suggest activities for you and your child while on this journey. The finished books are then returned to the parish. In order to support parents during this time, the parish offers parent-child workshops and separate parent meetings. In March we will be sending a First Communion Preparation Booklet home with your child. We will notify you via e-mail to look for it. Please read all information carefully.
Weekly Mass Attendance with Family
Of vital importance to a child’s preparation is the family’s participation at Mass on a weekly basis. The Mass is a revelation and the greatest expression of the Catholic faith. It is here that the preparation for this sacrament comes alive.
First Eucharist Retreat
The Retreat is being planned for 9:00 A.M.-12:00 A.M on Saturday, March 6, 2021. Since the retreat includes an important practice, line up and song, you are urged not to leave early, as your child will not be prepared for the Celebration.
One Mass
With the construction of our new chuch, we will now be able to accomdate all of the children receiving First Eucharist at one mass. We will be celebrating First Eucharist at a special 3:00 P.M. Mass on Sunday, April 18, 2021.
Immediate Family Reserved Seating
Please indicate on your form only the number of immediate family members (parents and stepparents, siblings and stepsiblings) as well as the ages of all children. Because of the large number of children at the mass, we can only seat immediate members of families in reserved seating. Non-immediate family members will be welcomed to sit in non-reserved seats on a first come first serve basis.
Babysitting
If you need babysitting services during the First Eucharist celebration, please complete the Babysitting Request From (once it becomes avaialble). Babysitting is offered during mass for children under 5 years of age. Please consider using this service and do not include them in your numbers for seating. Requests must be submitted by April 1st so that the we can secure the proper number of volunteers.
Reception
In order to plan receptions following each mass, we need to know approximately how many family and friends will be in attendance. Please indicate your educated guess of the numbers you would have attending if your child were assigned to any of the given masses.
Photography
A photographer will be on site during mass to photograph each child receiving the Eucharist for the first time. All students and their immediate family will recieve the Eucharist from one of the two priest present to celebrate the mass. You will be given the option to purchase the photo after the celebration.
Liturgical Ministries
If you or a family member are trained as a Liturgical Minister and would like to be considered to serve during your child's mass, please select the appropriate field in the form and mark the position in which you would like to serve.
