A convalidation is the process by which a Catholic marriage is recognized and blessed by the Church. Often called a "blessing of a marriage," convalidation is for couples who were married outside the Catholic Church and now wish to have their marriage recognized as a valid sacramental union.
At St. George, couples preparing for convalidation participate in Witness to Love, a marriage preparation program designed to strengthen communication, faith, and lifelong commitment. The convalidation process includes gathering sacramental documents, completing marriage preparation, and meeting with clergy or parish staff. Because each situation is unique, the timeline may vary; however, most convalidation preparations take approximately six months to complete.
We look forward to accompanying you on this important step in your faith journey.
